Smaller, More Personal, than an Official Ĥotel
They might be called Guest House, Inn, Pension, Villa, Home Stay or Bed and Breakfast. Some of them, might even be called (1, or 2 star) Hotel. They are a different category, more than an air-bnb, less than an actual Hotel. In most cases, they are ran by the Family whose Home it is. Some of them have Breakfast year-round (or upon request), some of them only have Breakfast during Summertime, or Summer and Spring, and still others never do. Some of them might have various perks, such as free Tea/Coffee and Biscuits, or free laundry. They usually clean your room about twice a week (or, in montenegro: only once a week, at best). They rarely have any actual, manned reception desk (or only have it during high season). And, from May 2024 on, whenever I was not able to live at ♥️Home♥️ (meaning: at "♥️Turist♥️"😍❣️😍❣️😍), I have mostly lived in them.
For $20 per day the small, Family-owned Hotel "Dari Zanjir" does also offers good Breakfast, as well as Free Coffee, Tea, Sweets and Biscuits all throughout the day, doesn't have an actual reception desk, cleaning is upon request (you leave them the key). The only reason I do NOT recommend them, is the fact that they are in uzbekistan (go and watch this vid to understand brrrrrrr). Owner is a very kind man, who, together with his Friend, helped me a lot during that horrible crisis - so, if You, nèbékh, through no fault of your own, do find yourself stuck at that hell of a "country", please go, and show them some Love - they deserve it.
Here Is a List of All these Places I Have Stayed at, in a Chronological Order:
"Hotel Damir", samarkand - May 2024:
Very Beautifully decorated, for $20 per day the small, Family-owned Hotel "Damir" does also offer good Breakfast, doesn't have an actual reception desk, cleaning is upon request (you leave them the key). The only reason I do NOT recommend them, is the fact that they are in uzbekistan (go and watch this vid to understand brrrrrrr).
"Hotel Dari Zanjir", samarkand - May 2024:
The gusthouse "dubrinya", Vielikiy Navgarod - May 2024:
Has a kitchen in the room, but no Breakfast (or any freebies), has a reception desk, cleaning is once every three days. The owner is an extremely antipathetic, cheap, vile and hateful woman. Do NOT stay there, no matter what.
"65home" guesthouse, vielikiy navgarod - May - July 2024:
For 3,500 russian rubles (about €36) - or (after discount for a long-period stay) 2,500 rur (about €26) per day, they have Lovely Breakfast, and have Free Coffee/Tea and Biscuits all throughout the Afternoon and evening (from 14:00 to 22:00), has a reception desk, cleaning is once every three days, however they take out the trash from the rooms daily, laundry is for (if I remember correctly) €5, or €6. During nice-weather days, I had spent many a Joyful and relaxing hour sitting in their Lovely back yard. Ĥowever...
Когда I left them, by the end of July '24, we had already agreed that I will come again, at late October, and stay there for three months straight. I had the room booked! But when, towards late October, I wrote the guy something along the lines of how happy I am to soon meet them all again, he suddenly wrote me, that, since a group had booked the entire place for some of those dates, I shall have to vacate it, from time to time...
I wrote him, Man, I have already had this room booked, for this entire period!!
But, for him, obviously, this meant absolutely nothing. Just, offer him money = and he completely forgets anything else, the ferengi (well - typical vielikiy navgarod, that, Wus kån Ich sagen.😕 A Lovely town - until you come across its pathologically greedy people). So, then I thought - Fuck, just suppose I were already there, suppose I were even ill and in bed or something - and then, all of a sudden, out of nowhere, he would have knocked at my door and ordered me out at once, to the Russian Winter❄️❄️❄️❄️, simply because "a group has just booked"...?
Needless to say, I never went there again (well, never came again to Russia, either, but that is tzar vladimir vladimirović PUTIN's fault🤦🏻🤷🏻♂️).
"Bora Home Stay", Gostimë - November-December 2024:
The hosts are a very kind, generous and helpful elderly couple. For a long period stay, the price for a day was €18, €21 including a Hearty Breakfast from their own Excellent Organic products. The eggs are from their back yard Hens who are all Truly Free range and happy. There is no actual reception desk. Cleaning is every few days, laundry is for Free (there is no drier). Free Coffee, and sometimes Raki (Albanian Vodka) with the owner in some of the Afternoons/evenings.
"Villa and Apartments Antigona", ♥️Ohrid♥️ - December 2024, January - March 2025, August - October 2025, and January 2026 till Present-Day:
The Absolute BEST of Them ALL, My Second ♥️Home♥️, and where I currently live. The owners are an absolute ♥️Lovely😍 Family. €23 per day (for a long-term stay), €28 including big Breakfast, which is only served during Season (from late May till late September). The reception desk is only active during that period. The room has a kitchen. Cleaning is mostly every 3~4 days (то есть, twice-a-week on average), laundry is for Free, and there sometimes are Free Coffee, or Tea, and a few Sweets at the Bar / Breakfast room.
"Villa bella", Ohrid (on the hill) - December 2024 - January 2025 (то есть, Новы Год):
An extortionist and a thief, totally corrupt to its very soul. Had the audacity to charge me €80(!!!!) per day(!!!!), while the room was barely worth €8, and did not even supply Breakfast = the second worst rip-off in my entire Life!!
Do NOT stay there, no fucking matter what.
"elite inn", vlorë [enough said😕] - March 2025:
Well, vlorë sure is a nasty town, the most revolting human habitation I've ever been to in fact, with garbage every-fucking-where, ĥowever about the reason I had literally ran away from that particularly sad place y'all can read, in full details, here.
"Vila Arial", vlorë(😕), March - April 2025:
Well if you find yourself in a situation when you, nèbékh, absolutely must stay in vlorë brrrrrrrrr, then this one Guest-House might just be your very Best bet? For €19 a day, including large Breakfast (and you want to take the Breakfast - trust me, that is their strongest card), I got a studio room - not a nice one (in retrospect, I should have taken a better, more expensive one!!), but it did feature a small kitchen. They have a reception desk, cleaning is every four days, laundry costs (if I remember correctly) €2, or €3, no freebies. For some reason, a second cup of Coffee/Tea at breakfast is an extra charge (what's up with that???).
"apartmani ivanović", budva-čećik - october 2025:
STAY AWAY from that place. Just simply STAY AWAY. That host is horrifying insane - and I literally feared for my Life in his presence.
"Apartmani Snežana", bar-šušanj - october - November 2025:
The view from its balcony its strongest card, and its location the weakest, this no-service-whatsoever, €12 per day place is located upon a horrifyingly steep hill at šušanj, which is the village-like northern neighbourhood of the highly-antipathetic montenegrin port town of bar. There are no Breakfast or reception desk, and the cleaning, changing of the bedsheets and laundry are all the guest's responsibility. The owners live there with their daughter, the man is okay, but the woman... she is very Decent and proper, yes, but also extremely cold and unfriendly - well, typical montenegrin, that: those people are as cold as latvians. It is literally unbelievable, how close they are Geographically to the ♥️Albanians♥️ - yet how extremely different their characters are. An actual baltic people, transplanted into the Balkan = that is what the montenegrins truthfully are blaat.
Anyway, while of course the view from the balcony is due to its location on that hill, nonetheless living there was a pain, for me - as I said, that hill is shockingly and mortifyingly steep, so much so, in fact, that you do actually need to be a fucking mountain-climber!! to survive it. So, for most of the time, I was under an actual self-imposed house-arrest / lockdown, completely dependent upon the (not always reliable) taxis of bar-šušanj. Also the stairs of that villa, themselves, are slippery and external, so, especially during the rainy days... it truly was horrifying.
So, unless you are masochist enough to like(????) such nightmarishly high-and-steep places: stay AWAY from that place.
"apartmani čivović", bar-šušanj - November -December 2025:
Nasty, cheap, and religiously adhere to the ferengi's first rule of acquisition: once you have their money, you never give it back!!
Don't stay there. For your own saje, just DON'T. NOR anywhere else в церне горе.
