Actually, You guys got it from us Jews. It's from Yiddish, into which it had entered as the Jewish version of the german "Na ja" ("На я"), which meabs something like "Okay, if You so insists, I will"... 😃
In Modern Hebrew, it can mean either:
"נוּ, בּוֹא כּבר!!" = "Nu, come already!!"
Or
"נוּ???" = "Well??? What say You to today's news / that last event / recent development on the World's stage???" (as in ❤️Dòdly❤️ at Friday Evening, back on the Good Ol' Eighties...😄)
